You will be required to do the following:
1. View the different websites to learn and gather information. 2. Create a list of mistakes that teens make while using social networking sites, cell phones, and IM’s. 3. Gather a list of at least 10 ways (no more than 15) to be safe on your subject. 4. Create a poster (using posterboard) or Power Point listing your safety tips, including the information requested in #'s 2 and 3. 5. Answer the questions on the worksheet for your group in the Power Point or poster 6. Create a "social netowrking page" that could be safe to have online for ANYONE to see; put your favorites, likes, dislikes, etc without being too revealing- BE CREATIVE!!! DO NOT JUST TURN IN TEXT - USE PICTURES, USE COLOR, ETC.
Process 1. You will be in groups of no more than 2. 2. You will research required information and combine findings into one presentation. 3. Click on your group heading and start your Web Quest. 4. Social Networkers Questions: What is a social networking site? How can a social networking site be dangerous? How can you protect yourself from unwanted friend requests, photos, and/or comments from being posted to your page? What should you do if you receive an unwanted request or harassing comments? Explain 5 ways a person can increase the security of the information they post on their page? Describe three things you find out about someone before allowing them access to your page? What information about you is safe to post online? Should you allow someone you know casually to have access to your page? Why or why not? Should you agree to meet someone from your friend list in person? Why or why not? How can that be dangerous? Describe why it is important to not post photos of yourself or revealing information to a social networking site? ***Thinking/Opinion Question*** Are social networking sites safe for all to use? What age do you feel kids should have their own social networking site? What is the most important tip you have learned regarding social networking sites?
Chatters Questions: Describe an online "chat". List three problems that a person might encounter in a chat room. What are some of the benefits of a chat room? What are some of the downfalls or risks of a chat room? What should you do if you find something inappropriate or that makes you feel uncomfortable? What type of information can you give out in a chat room? What type of information should you never give out? Name at least three ways you can stay safe in a chat room. How can you be sure you are talking/chatting to the person on the other computer? Should you ever meet someone from a chat room in person? Why or why not? ***Thinking/Opinion Question*** Are chat rooms safe for all to use? What age do you feel kids should be allowed to chat online? What is the most important tip you have learned regarding chat rooms?
Texters Questions: Define texting. What types of things can and should you use texting for? Is protecting your cell phone number important? Why or why not? What should you do if you receive harassing text messages? Is it okay to let someone take pictures/videos of you with their cell phone? Why or why not? Why is sending or receiving indecent photos/videos of someone (including yourself) a problem? What can be the negative results of sending or receiving indecent photos/videos of someone (including yourself)? What should you do if you receive indecent photos/videos of someone on your cell phone? How can the results of “sexting” have lasting negative effects on your future? What should you do if a boyfriend/girlfriend asks you to send a photo/video of yourself that you uncomfortable with? How do you explain not wanting to send/create photo/video? ***Thinking/Opinion Question*** Is texting safe for all? What age do you feel kids should be able to text friends? What is the most important tip you have learned regarding texting?
